It’s HOW Cold??

December 16th, 2008

It’s been pretty cold here for a few days, since about Saturday afternoon.  So no big surprise that this morning was more of the same.  But I was a little shocked looking at the temperature gauge in my truck on the way to work this morning.  -4F.  That’s cold for this part of the country.  I was used to that when I was living in Winnipeg.  But I’ve been here for 20+ years now.  That’s “unseasonably” cold as they say.  Well last year we got a boatload of snow, apparently this year we are going to get the cold.  I was also half listening to a report on the radio saying something about Russia having record amount of days with NO snowfall, something like 130 years since they have had that little amount of snow.  It even went so far as to say that they days of huge snowfalls in Russia is a thing of the past.  What does that mean??  Who knows, but it’s something to consider I suppose.

Xmas is coming

December 5th, 2008

Only a few weeks until the Holidays, or Xmas as I like to call it.  I get a lot of flak about calling it Xmas instead of Christmas.  I have nothing against using Christmas, I’m just a lazy butt and abbreviate it Xmas (or X-mas).  Now, for all those “your taking the Christ out of Christmas” busy bodies, do you know where the term Xmas came from?  Do you know why it was abbreviated that way?  My guess is you don’t.  So instead of me going on and on and on and on and… on.  I’ll just direct you to the Wikipedia entry for it: here.  I actually thought I had posted on this before because I first started getting people annoyed back around the time I started doing this blog.  I looked back through though and can’t seem to find it.  I know I had looked it up at the time so I knew why it was abbreviated as such so I had no issue continuing.  For those who are still reading and are not planning on clicking the link.  The punch line is:  X is the Greek letter for Christ and has been used in that way for quite some time (that really is a dumbed down explanation, the Wikipedia entry does it so much better).  So your not really taking the Christ out, your actually just going old school.  Or in my case possibly being a little lazy.  :)  In fact, I would dare to say that those of you focused more on what you are going to get for Christmas, or how much someone is going to spend on you, or are out being jerks in the stores, are taking more Christ out of Christmas than someone abbreviating it to Xmas ever is.

I’m tired

July 22nd, 2008

Boy am I beat.  Can’t seem to shake it either.  Don’t know why.  It’s not like I have anything going on.  Just twins, finishing construction on the basement, keeping up with the yard, helping the parents (on both sides), and what else?  Oh yeah, work.  :)

Yeah, yeah, poor me I know.  I’d feel sorry for me too if I were you.  I just have it so tough…  Yes, that was sarcasm.  As busy as it is right now, we love the kids.  Summer is just wizzing by too fast and I’m not getting as much done on that basement as I want.  I’ve had tons of help from great people, and we are drywalling now.  So we can start seeing rooms come together.  Hopefully by the time September hits, we’ll be using a couple rooms.  And I also hope the twins are sleeping through the night (please Lord).

Anyway, next month it’s a trip to Calgary for my cousin’s wedding, then immediately after a road trip to the Oregon coast with out friends.  Another busy couple weeks, but should be fun.  As usual, I’ll try posting pics as I go.  Speaking of pictures, I should take some of the basement as we go so we can “journal” what it used to look like.

I did get a chance this weekend to see The Dark Knight.  Great flick.  Not sure I was big on the ending, but it works in setting up the next one.  Performances on all sides were great, although the Rachael character I could care less about.  And I’m not big on Maggie Gyllenhaal.  She just looks odd to me.  I’d like to have seen Katie Holmes come back, but maybe Tom doesn’t like it when his wife’s career is better than his own.

Anyway, until later.

Baby Canucks update

May 13th, 2008

So a lot of the family are looking for more photos of the little ones.  It’s not that there are not enough pictures being taken of them, it’s just that I don’t seem to get a hold of them very often.  My wife is taking A TON of pictures.  Thank goodness we made the move to digital a while ago, otherwise we’d be paying a fortune in developing fees.  So I’m adding these to the mix.  Again there are just a few but it’s better than nothing right?    We just did some family portraits too, I’ll upload them when I get them.  Enjoy.

There be new Canucks

February 27th, 2008

Well that didn’t take much longer.  So 2 days, well technically 3 days, after my last post the new Canucks arrived.  My wife went in for an ultra sound on Valentine’s Day and they decided it would be best if she didn’t leave.  She ended up with Preclampsia, so bad that they felt she needed to get the babies out on the 14th.  So I got the call at work at around 2pm.  Off I run to get everything set at home, and then off to the hospital.  She was induced at around 6pm on the 14th and at 3:44am and 3:46am on the 15th, Eleanor and Cairo were brought into the world.  Ellie weighed in at 4 lbs, 13 oz, and Ciaro at 4 lbs, 6.5 oz.  Both ended up spending some time in the NICU as they were preemies (made it to 35 weeks).  Ellie got up to speed much quicker and was able to come home on the 20th.  Cai is still there as he’s having a little bit of an issue with some arrythmia problems.  Sounds like it’s managable but still something we will need to get trained on and watch for.

Luckily with Ellie being a preemie, she’s actually not quite ready to be up and awake much.  So she’s on a 4 hour feeding schedule that allows us to get some decent sleep.  We’re told not to expect that to continue much after her actual due date comes as she will then be a newborn and want to destroy our sleep schedule as much as possible.  So we’re enjoying it while it lasts.  And now, on to the good stuff.  The pics!!
